In France, there are numerous zoological parks which constitute a privileged place to meet numerous animal species, most of them wild or exotic. La Tanière develops a completely different concept. Neither profit motive, nor enrichment of an animal collection plan, nor reproduction or search for the most beautiful specimen of a species to enhance the refuge. The shelter does not take in an animal “because it is of interest” but because no other survival solution is available to it.

With strengthening care in the community, older generations can stay at home for longer, rather than moving into nursing homes, making easy access to Leger des Heils centres even more important. The organisation plans to increase their centres from 110 to 200 in the coming years to support this growing community need. Expanding into the digital age is important – for the centres to be able to educate and inform their visitors effectively and also to enable communities with access to connected technologies.

OTOZ Animals – Poland

OTOZ Animals runs 10 shelters for homeless animals. One percent funds and donations received from donors allow us to improve the conditions of homeless animals in the shelters we run in: Gdynia, Tczew, Starogard Gdański, Elbląg, Dąbrówka near Wejherowo, Oświęcim, Sompolno, Zielona Góra and Bojan in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. We also financially support shelters in Bydgoszcz and Kościerzyna.

We started the work by preparing and collecting food donations, while distributing the donations we visited the homeless people living on the street and in social care by bicycle.
